Can anyone advise? Does anyone know why this has happened to my plant? What can/should I do to save it? Thanks

I am not a cacti expert but I’d google how to remove rot asap. That is black and looking soft. Hopefully, it’s just at the top and not running through the middle.
1 gillaIt isn’t soft, it’s really hard and literally happened overnight 🥲 I’ll have a google now, thanks for replying
0 gillningarI would chop the top off and keep cutting it down until you see no more rot on the inside. Depending on how long ago this plant was repotted, and the kind of soil it’s in, it might be time to check the roots and give it a better draining soil. This is a gorgeous specimen! 😍
1 gillaIt is due a repot so I’ll get that done today and check what its roots etc are like Thank you
0 gillningarIs it spreading downwards quickly or has it stopped in place?
0 gillningarHi Tyler, I’ve chopped it off now and no it had not spread any further than you see
0 gillningarChopping it off was solid advice. You may get one or two arms right below the cut shortly. As far as the tip goes, there’s a phenomenon that doesn’t really have a lot of hard research behind it. It’s simply called tip rot in the forums and it’s common with Pedro’s (that’s what yours looks like), cereus, and tricocereus. Bacteria is the most often thrown around culprit. The common denominator in them is etiolation—it seems to make them more susceptible. Cactiguide.com is a much better resource—it’s where the people that live and breathe cacti are.
