I was repotting a larger calico kitten succulent, and some leaves and little stems fell off the big plant. I made up my own succulent soil; it has about 1/3+ sand in it. I found it’s easier to spritz it, otherwise I just end up sort of blowing sand all over the place! What is the best way to water some starts like this, and how often would you water it? TIA! PS. I just read another post about succulent starts; I did not harden off these starts???

I have been growing Succulents for about 8 years now and I have never hardened off any. I just set them on soil spray them once a week and let them do there thing. I like to spray them till the roots are ready to plant them I will water them about once or twice a month in the winter and 3 or 4 times in the summer. These are some that I'm growing this winter I spray them about 2 weeks. Hope this helps and good luck

😮‍💨… What a lot of work! What will you do with all these babies… go into business, or what?! PS. TXS for the comment on hardening; I was really worried since I planted these leaves as soon as they fell off the mama. When spring comes, per your instructions, out they go!

I never bury them I just set them on the dirt. I just make sure I place the leaf the right side up so the roots go down and the plant grows up. I have done some backwards and it's a little harder to plant cause the roost go the wrong way. Lol I do about 100 starts evey winter and place them in baskets or cute containers and mom and I sell them in front of our home. We have been doing it for about 4 years and it's a lot of fun and it keeps mom busy which is good cause she's 85 now and it keeps her going. This was from 2 years ago

If it works don't fix it. I have hardened a few things off that I've tried to propagate and it seems to work fine. Hardening helps avoid basal rot on the cutting of most succulents and cactii but as I said if it's working for you don't fix it..

What a fabulous plan, and how great you and your mom do it together! My mom’s not around anymore…😢, but I think the idea of selling your props in front of your house is something I’d like to do. I’m like a little old lady in a shoe, I have so many props, I don’t know what to do! So, maybe a little outdoor business in front of our garage might be a super project, and maybe even a bit profitable… TXS!

We started it when covid hit cause we couldn't do a yard sale and sell them then so now we just keep doing this. Mom and I built a duplex a few years back to be close to each other and it's has been great to spend this time with her. We don't really make that much with buying soil and all and we buy a lot of our pots at yard sales to keep prices low. It's mostly just a lot of fun. Lol you sold definitelytry it we have meet a lot of new peoplein our area this way. Good luck.

What a wonderful idea and thing to do with your mom. I bet she is so grateful to have something she enjoys to keep her busy and while spending time with you. I wish my mom was still here she is who got me into plants and I sure wish i woulda learned all I could from her before she passed but of course life is so busy I couldn’t always spend as much time as I wanted to planting with her. :(
