So I took a leaf off a couple of my succulents to try and propagate for my first time ever, I’ve left the leaves out to callus for about 4 days now, do we think they’re good to go or should I wait a bit longer before planting? Are they calloused?

They look calloused enough. I say go for it!

You don’t really need to plant! You can set them on top of the soil now until you see roots & then plant it. You could put it on the soil and completely forget about it and never even water and it would very likely root 😂

here this was literally just underneath my stonecrop, in the back, on the bay window sill, completely ignored and roasted in the west sun and it’s managed this lol they really find a way!

How long does it take for the leaves to start to root? I did this a couple weeks ago - even put rooting powder on the ends - and nothing so far. I have ~30 leaves laid out on soil

Completely depends on the plant. Some start in days, some can take months. I’ve never used rooting hormone. Can you add a picture of the tray? I might could help more.😊

I’m aware the first picture is quite crowded if they were all to prop but I know they won’t all prop for me as this is my first go lol

Zoom in on SucculentMomma’s photo. The calloused end of the leaves are not covered with soil. You can see the pink roots above the soil. I’ve found that the new plants survive longer if they sprout above the soil. The roots will find their way into the soil even if the leaves are not buried.

Well, I just updated Planta and apparently it broke something because now I can’t see the pictures either of us posted. 🤔🤪 But Sunny is absolutely correct. Don’t burry the end of the leaves. Think of them as a garage, not a tree. Both the pup and roots come out of the same spot. So you lay them flat on the top of the soil. The pup comes out and goes up. The roots come out of the same spot and naturally go into the soil…eventually.

Thank you both for the advice - that makes so much sense! 😊 I will try that!

You’re welcome! I’m glad that helped! Make sure your leaves didn’t break at all and have a complete tip on the leaf.
