I have been using Jack’s gritty mix and I’ve used 10 bags of 2 gallons. Can’t continue to buy this brand as it’s expensive. I found a cheaper alternate from Home Depot - Vigoro brand pea gravel. The pebbles are bigger but not sure if this is okay to use.

You can use pea gravel, but it has zero nutrients. So you'd need to ammend it with something else. Like 60+% pea gravel to 40%- perlite, bark, potting mix, calcified clay, etc. Whatever your specific plants needed.

This is an Agave, but for anything dryer loving, This is the mix I've been using lately, and its going pretty well. It's mostly orchid bark, akadama, perlite. And a small % of my usual potting mix (fox farms ocean, charcoal, gypsum, perlite, bark, innoculant).
