I am wanting to repot this Pilosocereus pachycladus. It is in a 3 inch pot, and I am wondering how much bigger to go. I am also wondering if I can plant it in Miracle Grow seed starting mix.

I wouldn't go much bigger than that. You could just do a refresh in that same pot. But if that's 3" I'd go to a 4" if you wanted to size up. I do not use the miracle grow products on cacti, it's way to peat heavy, and I lost a bunch of succulents and cacti to rot because of it. I prefer a gritty mix, peat free. Like Sol Soil's or Jacks gritty mix. Someone posted one called Back to the roots succulent and Cacti mix the other day that looked good too.

いいね 1件Completely agree with Wolfen here. I wouldn’t use Miracle Grow’s soil for anything, especially if your area’s more humid in the spring or summer. My local nurseries refuse to sell their stuff and even have repotting corners for people to bring their stuff in if it needs rescuing from Miracle Grow repots. I’ve been using Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix cause I can find it at my Ace Hardware and local plant nurseries for about $7-9, but I’ve definitely heard good things about the brands Wolfen recommends if you can find them in your neck of the woods. Pro tip: get some thick gardening gloves on when repotting your prickly friend 😬 much less painful that way. Wrapping it in a paper towel to grip it while gently popping it out of the pot also helps. And I’ve found waiting until the day it needs watering to repot it, then watering it right after the repot helps reduce the risk of shock from a more serious repot.
3件のいいねNot sure what professional would do but I used tongs to hold the cactus and dug a hold in bigger pot to the size of root that it had and moved dirt in to support it. Roots were not deep. I used cactus dirt and fertilizer. I watered it throughly Then put in sun and left it alone for 2 weeks. It’s doing great. I wouldn’t use seed starter mix does the mix does it say anything about succulents? I went to a 6 inch pot as cactus roots don’t grow too large or fast. Your plant looks health so use the soil in the 3 inch pot when you transfer the cactus. Good luck:)
