Two questions~ Listed in order of priority. Plant identity: Echeveria Pulvinata Ruby Pruning question: This little buddy has grown a lot since I brought him home (see baby pic). I feel like I should prune him back to shape him, as he is rather leggy. I have not had a succulent with this growth pattern before & am hesitant to chop him. I did see a post today where someone chopped theirs, so that gives me a little more confidence. However, I have some other questions. Can I propagate what I remove? I usually propagate my succulents, but as I mentioned, my other succulents don’t have branches like this one. Color/nutrient/fertilizer question: Where did the ruby go? I identified this plant as an Echeveria Pulvinata Ruby when I purchased him last year. However, the “ruby” on his leaves quickly went away (see baby pic for comparison). I water with filtered water (altho it is hard water where I live); he lives in my eastern facing kitchen (lots of sunlight; direct in the mornings, bright the rest of the day). He has bloomed twice since living with me & grown a lot. So to me, this fuzzy Echeveria seems happy, but I am at a loss as to why his leaves are only green now. I usually assume this is like the melanin in our skin & becomes deeper with sun exposure, but he gets quite a lot of sunshine… Is he lacking some nutrient? Thanks!

Give him more light and behead and propagate all the leaves into new baby plants. I do this quite often. Just twist to snap the leaves, leave to callous on paper towel for a couple days then root in water or place directly in your potting mix. I currently have over 20 baby moonstones from 1 parent plant I got as a gift

Not sure I want more plants, 😅 I’ve probably got about 30 plants in my care atm. & I also want him to mature/get thick. But I will got ahead & prune him back! Thanks!

Very etoliated, lost its stress coloring….best guess is still not enough light. Needs a strong grow light. Is the pic in your app from when you first bought, or is that a generic pic. Wow beautiful plant. I’m looking that one up to purchase.

He’s in one of the brightest spots in my place… which is bright all day & direct for a few hours in the morning. Maybe I’ll move him outside this summer & see how he does. by “lost its stress coloring” do you mean the red was from stress? Looks like the pic is generic. This little guy hasn’t gotten that big or pink yet.

update: just checked the leaves & they are turning ruby again — I think the winter light was not enough, I have not moved him since this post, however, the sun has moved. 🌞 🙌♥️ Also, there is a new branch forming low down on the main stock 🌱

So he is doing better? He looks amazing and most time those colors come from stressing the plant. I do love these style plants and I have a few BUT I’m having THE HARDEST time getting them to be vibrant. But I also I have a lot of new nursery plants and I think I’m just nervous on how much stress and pressure I want to put on them. Show us more updated pics..🙏🏽🙏🏽
