This is my second cuddly cactus that has done this. I’m assuming I’m overwatering? Or it’s staying wet in the pot for too long (even though it is completely dried out right now). My question is what exactly is happening here? How can I save, chop and prop? What sort of soil mixture do I use? I repotted this guy about a month and a half ago with cactus soil, perlite and orchid bark. I’ve never had good luck with cactus’s😫

I got mine at Trader Joe’s and I think Home Depot had them too at one point

Also, does it have drainage, how long does it take the dirt to dry out, and how often do you water it?

Yes it does. I just repotted it and only watered once and it’s been drying out since. I won’t even water it if it’s slightly wet. But this was the same issue I had with the first one I had. I repotted it, watered it once and then this a few weeks layer

OMG! This post caused me to take a look at my two cuddly cacti that are going strong - or so I thought! I don’t know what happened, but the one that I re-potted most recently looks like it was rotting! RIP But now I will keep a closer eye on the older one, so I’m glad you posted! For those looking for these, the two I got were from grocery stores. But they seem to be planted in some dense peat. I saw on YouTube (Desert Plants of Avalon) when she replanted hers, she said viewers advised her to not try to remove the peat or it would damage the roots. So she just up-potted in good soil, but left the hard rootball alone. Since you may be doing a chop and replant, you won’t have to worry about that. I hope it works out for you!

This is my second one and I even waited months to repot it since the first one did the same thing it’s doing now! I might switch to a terracotta pot and maybe look into more drainage options for soil. I’m just stumped this is the second time it’s happened to me lol

I would advise to move it to a terracotta pot and a very chunky soil. Although I usually advise watering after repotting to settle the dirt around the roots, in this case I would just suggest you tap the pot on the counter to settle the dirt. Also, the dirt staying moist fir weeks would absolutely cause rot. A terracotta pot and chunky soil will help a lot, placing a fan in front of it can help dry it up way faster. I hope you can save it!🥰

How do you water your cactus? Like bottom watering or top

If it has a drainage hole id recommend to bottom water it next time it needs water!

You also should check if it had root rot. If it does cut that part off
