It’s common for jade plants to naturally drop their leaves, but losing a lot of them and having them turn brown and shriveled could suggest underwatering, but yours looks softer and a different brown, which could mean overwatering. How often do you water your plant?

Every time I get the notification on here, but it’s happening to both the plants I keep in my kitchen

Ok. I water my jade plant every 10 days. There’s been a recent glitch with the app since summer started that changes the number of days between waterings, which can increase in the summer, but I’ve noticed it’s made watering way too often for some of my plants. To check this, look up the jade plant (crassula ovata) in the search section and see what number of days it usually suggests, then compare it to the number of days the app is suggesting for your jade specifically. If it doesn’t match, go to your plant’s settings and change the watering from “use Planta’s schedule” to “use custom schedule”. I make it every 10 days in the summer and every 15 in the winter for my jade plants.

If the numbers match up, and you’re giving the plant a good 10 days or so and the soil dries out completely between waterings, then you might want to check for pests or check the roots. If the soil stays wet even after a week or 10 days, then the soil it’s in is likely the culprit, and you’ll have to repot. I used Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent soil and it’s never failed me. Have you ever repotted this jade, or repotted it in Miracle Grow, by any chance?

I use the Walmart brand orange bag of succulent dirt

Hmm 🤔 can’t say I know too much about Walmart brand stuff. If it stays wet for more than 3 days, it’s probably too moist of a soil mix for the plant, and likely what’s causing the issue.

I always poke a moisture meter in before watering. The apps are usually a ballpark estimate, imo.
