Hello! I bought this cactus months ago, and sadly watched the top flower die. I kept it in the pot I bought it in. I was going to give it a proper burial once it looked like it was a complete loss. To my surprise (and great excitement) a tiny little arm started to grow. This pic is about 2 months since. Am I afraid to touch this? You bet! So Iā€™m looking for advice from this group! Shes GOT to make it this time! Sheā€™s currently on my front porch with bright but not direct sun. Iā€™m in NJ- of course sheā€™ll be spending the winters indoorsā˜ŗļø Thanks for reading!

    hard to say with complete certainty now that the top piece is gone BUT Iā€™m pretty dang confident here. these are spliced for novelty. the (formerly) bulbous part on top is a different plant ā€” in this case probably a moon cactus ā€” that is grafted onto the top of the base cactus ā€” in this case itā€™s a dragonfruit cactus. Iā€™d pull the dead guy off the top and let this do its thing šŸ˜Š

      Yea I agree, pull the dead part off and let it do its thing. But also, does your pot have drainage holes ? I canā€™t tell, but if it doesnā€™t, maybe consider repotting it to a pot with drainage because I killed a cactus before because of it. Itā€™s a small but significant tip I think. Good luck !

      The pot does have drainage, so weā€™re ok there. But I question the soil- gets very hard when dried out. Maybe it needs a repot?

      could be! if it stays really dry for too long it can become hydrophobic ā€” but it would be easy enough to pop it out and check, and maybe go up a size
