(photo update) hi! i’m somewhat new to the cacti world! i was gifted a few plants here recently. i have read a few articles stating how tone to water, ranging from 1-2 weeks to 4-6 in the winter. one of my cacti on this app, currently says the next day to water is over a month away. where i live its 80° daily. my plants are indoors under lights 13 hours a day. does this seem right? i’m honestly so lost on how to ACTUALLY care for these guys. any help on how any of you water, would be greatly appreciated! ty!! :3

    i don’t know a ton about cacti either but i do know the the plant in the corner is not a cactus, its a carnivorous plant and needs to be practically sitting in water

    Yes it is possible! I have cactus that drink that seldomly. Is that what the app is recommending? Friendly reminder to check the info in the plant settings. Soil type, pot, drainage etc..

    So all cacti are succulents but not all succulents are cacti. Then there are also semi-succulent carnivorous plants, etc. so try not to manage these all with the same routine. Also, With 13 hours of grow light and 80°F temperatures, these plants are in a high-energy environment that requires more frequent monitoring for dryness. Left to right, back to front 1) Unlike the cacti in this photo, this is a carnivorous plant known as a Mexican Butterwort. This plant needs to be kept moist. Use only distilled or rain water. Make sure it’s trapping insects, and never ever fertilize. 2) bishop’s cap - hardy, likes your set up 3) Booobie cactus lol. It may need water every 2–6 weeks, but always check that the soil is dry first. You can stick a chopstick or your pinky full on down into the soil to be sure. Some people even wait until the plant itself feels slightly soft before watering. 4) "Ghost Cactus," this is actually a succulent called Euphorbia lactea. Euphorbia can excrete a sap that’s toxic so just handle with care. Your watering is gonna be the same. When it’s fully dry. 5) Spiral Cactus - it will love the 13 hours. Make sure that that soil is very well draining. 6) Old Man Cactus - wait until it’s 100% dry for sure before watering and even then don’t get any water on the actual plant so just water from the bottom or around the sides/top of soil while avoiding the “hairs.” 7) Variegated Moon Cactus - 13 hours is a lot, if it’s starting to yellow/bleach consider moving it. Water every 2 to 3 weeks if it’s bone dry. That’s really the key here is that you don’t follow the schedule you follow what the plant is telling you. 8) This appears to be an Astrophytum asterias. This one you’re okay on, as they’re extremely sensitive to overwatering and wet soil. Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering thoroughly. 9) Domino Cactus (Echinopsis subdenudata) - maintain the same dry and soak as all the others, this one might get a little wrinkly when it gets towards watering time.

      also, they’re indoors, outside temps are around 80° daily. the temp indoors is around 70°. so i seems i just rly need to keep an eye on these guys then to make sure they’re dry before watering. the one that’s recommending over a month till watering again is the a Mammillaria magnifica, it’s in a glass pot with drainage and a nice chunky soil. i have a temp controlled greenhouse i use for the winter where i was going to put these when that time came, i wanna get them in that cycle of actually growing now, and going dormant in the winter and needing no water. here’s a more recent pic of everything. i keep my ping here since it turns pink with bright light, and this one goes dormant winter.

    The mexican butterwort can eat insects but doesn't technically need them; that feature makes them one of the best carnivorous plants for rookies

    I was having problems with the app telling me to water or fertilize when the plant didn’t seem ready for that to me. I bought a moisture meter to measure all my plants when the app gave suggestions. Adjusting the timing on the app (ie; saying didn’t water because still wet) helps the app adjust to that particular plant. So far, this system has worked really well for me.

      i will do that! i have seen that “still wet” option but i never knew it would adjust how often to water, figured it just waiting a few more days u til telling ya to water again.

      Under today’s tasks, tap on the name of the plant and when the next screen comes up, it should have three dots in the lower right hand corner. Tap on those and the option is there.

      Yes, if you are constantly saying the soil is still wet, it will ask if you want the schedule adjusted.
