Anyone seen this happen to the branches of a false Christmas cactus?

Also, it’s over 20 years old and was just given to our care last year before blooming time.
0 Me gustawell apart from this bit being broken from the plant, it was healthy! The browning is called “corking” and it happens as the plant ages. The purpose is to strengthen the plant for more and more growth 💚😊
2 Me gustaThank you! I’ve never heard that term and it’s my first cactus. I would hate to kill this thing after it’s been alive for so long!
0 Me gustaSo these are epiphytes — not actually cactus. Epiphytes grow in the nooks and crannies of trees and such, instead of in the ground. A well draining cactus & succulent soil with extra perlite and fine orchid bark is a great growing medium for these 💚😊
1 me gustaLooks exactly like mine! Have you repotted it since the corking started? Or tried to propogate it?
