Can I repot these 2 jade plants into just one pot ? Any tips ?
Yes. You want a pot 1-2â larger than their combined root ball. With Jade I would error on the smaller side, and make sure it has drainage. I also wait 2-3 days after watering to repot my succulents, helps decrease root damage, and makes them a bit more pliable to fit into pots together.
2 gillningarAgreed. Only thing I wanna add is make sure you donât use Miracle Grow when repotting. It contains too much peat and stays moist for too long, especially in humid climates, so itâs garnered the reputation of being a plant killer and fungus gnat magnet, and sadly from my experience even their succulent mix can kill a jade within a matter of weeks. If youâre new to repotting and looking for soil brands, I highly suggest Espomaâs Cactus and Succulent mix. Youâll probably be fine with other brands as long as theyâre NOT Miracle Grow. Just grab a bag or perlite if it doesnât contain or doesnât come with much of it in that brandâs mix. It should tell the contents of the mix on the back of the bag. Hope this helps! Good luck! đ
0 gillningarMy other lil tip if theyâre very root-bound and the roots donât wanna separate at all to evenly plant both together is to soak the soil in room temp water for 30-60 minutes, then gently try to remove as much soil as possible with a wooden skewer or chopstick. If that doesnât help and the inability to loosen the roots has led to gaps in the soil that makes it still look like two separate plants rather than a singular plant, trim some of the jade at the tops (go for a stem cutting, at least 2-3 leaves down, and remove the bottom leaves so that it has a longer stem to plant and the nodes from where the leaves were will become spots for roots to grow), give them a day for the stems to callous, then pot the stems in the top of the soil on the sides with gaps between the two plants that the jade will eventually even out itself with the stem cuttings. You can either propagate this way by sticking them right into the soil after callousing, or giving them a seperate container of soil to develop roots, then plant them in on the sides. You can prop the leaves you pinched off top, but they tend to propagate better when given a seperate dish and gently stuck into the top of the soil before returning to the original plant.
1 gillaI think this has something to do with storage and watering habits . All of my jades started out in MG cactus & succulent soil â and they were in that for years. MG is certainly not my soil preference now that Iâve learned more about growing mediums, but I disagree that this will kill your plants. You may just need to adjust your watering đâïž
1 gillaThanks a ton ! I wasn't using MG soil, but I'll definitely look into the brands you mentioned .
0 gillningarYes I knew they like to be held in tight, but I didn't know about waiting 2-3 days after watering. That's smart! Thanks đ
0 gillningarI wouldnât! Theyâre both really happy and might even be slightly different. Theyâll grow better in their own pots
1 gillaGorgeous !! Great job đđŒ
