Hello! My snake plant, Calypso, has several pups growing right now, and is love to propagate them but don’t know how. Any advice or tips for propagation are extremely appreciated! I’ve tried propping from leaf cuttings but have failed each time. I’ve heard that pup propping is more successful, but I want to be careful and not waste any of these babies. Thank you so much!

Pups can be dug up (with the parent) when they are about 5 or 6 inches tall. Use a sharp knife and separate them at the root ensuring both mother and pup each retain some roots. Let the cut callus over for two or three days before putting both plants back in the soil to prevent root rot.

Sansiveria’s have rhizomes (that’s why cuttings are especially difficult). I used you-tube to look up “separating snake plants” and really liked some of the videos on how to do it. It’s important that your shears, knife, or scissors are clean and disinfected.

Thank you so much for the help, everyone! I’ll wait a bit until the pups mature and then follow your advice. Thanks again!
