I need advice! So i believe i have a chichipe cactus, i noticed that one of the cacti were turning colors at the bottom as seen in pic 5. I thought it was overwatered so I was gonna cut it and try to save it, but when i got into the pot and pulled them out, all four were yellow at the bottom. The soil was as dry as dust so im assuming underwatered? I just want to be sure because the yellow seems a little bit soft but not like stem rot or root rot soft you know. They are also kind of wrinkling at the bases before you see the yellow part so I dont know! Im still a beginner and Ive googled it and it keeps coming up with underwatered or overwatered

    At first I thought it could be a sunlight issue… because the yellowing is happening where the sun can’t reach it. But after you mentioned it being squishy and soft as well, that immediately signaled root rot. Root rot is caused by overwatering and poor drainage. They like dry conditions and cannot tolerate consistently wet soil… so it’s good that it was really dry in there when you went to go look. I don’t think it could be overwatering if the soil is that dry. So if it’s underwatering, then you need to make sure the pot has good drainage, and good soil mixture. You should be watering it about every 12 days… the amount of water varies on how big the pot is.

    I think root rot as well, and when I suspect so I have removed the “rot” part, wait for it to callous then plant it again. But the roots look healthy 🤔. The other factor is the type of soil. Do not cut, but Be sure you are using a succulent soil. Please let us know how the lil one is doing.
