I’ve had this guy for a little over a year and it was sharing a planter with a few friends but I recently repotted it into this plastic planter (temporarily). It started growing like crazy after that and I’m not sure what I should do. The stalk is really long and I thought it was sprouting flowers but now I think it’s more babies. Help!! (Arm is there to block neighbor’s cars)

    The plant looks great to me. I don't have all the scientific terms, but I've watched this plant repeatedly grow a little bunch, grow an arm long enough so the bunch touches the soil, drop little roots from the bunch, grab the soil, grow. Repeat over and over. I think your plant looks good.

      I’m mostly worried about the weight, the stem is thick but tall and I’m worried it’s going to snap.

      This is how my topsy turvy grows. I have several planters of pups from it. But this may not be a Mexican snowball. Because I don’t think they grow pups this way. They are usually at the base of the main rosette. Yours is definitely not a topsy turvy, but maybe a prolifica. I think they grow pups like that. But the original poster’s plant? I have not seen that before. Except I have an echeveria hybrid that is doing something similar but turns out to be flower stalks. So very interested in why it’s growing like that.

    Ok. Update. I was just looking at my snowball and comparing to yours Cecilia. How much sun does your plant get? A lot of sun or very bright grow lights? Because mine is very close to soil, no stem showing and it is under a very bright grow light. I’ve had it since last autumn. I’ve always thought it was an echeveria Mexican snowball. Could be wrong though. What I’m thinking is if they don’t have enough light maybe they grow pups on long stalks with aerial roots.

      Hey! It lives on a balcony that gets direct sun about half the day. The stalk at the base started growing taller when it shared a planter with a couple other plants. Since I’ve re-potted it is when it started growing the pup.

      Interesting, so sounds like plenty of light. Blows that theory. 🤔

    Mine is doing the same thing! I wondered if I should move the rocks surrounding it so the arms could more easily reach the soil? I recently repotted mine deeper as i do was worried about the stem and the weight.

      I repotted mine deeper and it still isn’t enough! 😅

      You can always just cut the stalk off and plant it in succulent soil. Leave enough stem to balance and help anchor it. Should root quickly. Water the stem base as needed with a squirt bottle, not the entire pot.
