Cactus is growing after years! I bought this little guy as a first plant for my son. He turned into a teenager who never opens his curtains, so I rescued the cactus, which had stayed literally the same for about four years. It now lives on my grow light shelf, and I repotted it into a terracotta pot with a much looser soil, which means I can water it a bit more often. Itā€™s also had some fertilizer. And - itā€™s growing! I didnā€™t know it did that. This is April to now. Does anyone know what kid it is? I thought it would grow round, not upā€¦

    I laughed at the curtains thing šŸ˜‚ itā€™s definitely some variety of mammillaria ā€” with the right conditions it will bloom a sweet little crown of flowers. depending on the variety it could be growing up to get to the light. it will want the grow light to be quite close to it

      Thank you, this is super helpful! The grow shelf has lights in the top, so, it is further away from them than my aroids. I do have separate grow lamps that I can use for this guy though. I agree it does look like heā€™s reaching for the light! I donā€™t really ā€œdoā€ cacti so it will be a learning process, but itā€™s one of my plant gang now so it will get love.

    60/40 ratio of water to hydrogen peroxide will help kill those pesky fungus gnats.
