Hi! Does anyone know what succulent this is and why itâs making small clumps where old leaves have fallen off? Iâm hoping itâs a good sign!

Its a echeveria And those lumps means you plant has a genetic mutation which can be bad for your plant or good it depends Just keep an eye on it

How would it be bad may I ask, just so I know what to look for
0 gillningarIt might die and revert to its original form according to google which can also kill it but it can also just change the form or color of you plant which it will not kill the plant it might just look funny
1 gillaI would not trust Google on that one. I have had plants that do that and they grow a new rosette at the end where the growth tip was and it is the exact same plant it was. Itâs just like the succulents growing pups out of the end of leaves. Be cautious when googling for answers. People often post things when they donât know without disclosing where they got the information from. I really appreciate that you mentioned where you got this information from so the poster didnât think itâs something you have experienced.đ
0 gillningarThanks for the advise but I looked on a trusted site on google I know because my friend runs it and sheâs has had plants for up to 40 years
0 gillningarGotchađ Well, then I learned something new. I have heard of this for grafted plants like roses and fruit trees, but never for un grafted plants like succulents. I know seeds from hybrid plants revert too. Thanks for adding the extra information.đ
0 gillningarThatâs totally normal! What probably happened, is the leaves that were coming out of the growth tip died. So the plant is putting off new baby plants out of that spot. I had a plant that did that, but the new baby plant on top is big enough now that I eventually removed the leftover big leaves and planted it deeper to grow more roots. So I canât really show you. But yes, that is totally normal for a plant that the leaves at the growth tip died for some reason other than rot, and fell off. In my case it was because they were too close to the window when it got real cold outside and those leaves froze. The rest of the plant was still totally healthy, which is why it grew a new rosette on the end there.

Thank you thatâs so helpful! It was a free one from my uni so it probably wasnât the healthiest when I got it
1 gillaYou are welcomeđ I tried running it through planta for identification but didnât do well since it doesnât look like it typically does at the moment. My guess would be a grapetopetalum, grapetoveria, or similar with those leaves. Iâm going to think on it for a minute and get back to you if I can narrow it down more.
