New cactus mom here!! Literally just bought this bunny ear cactus and brought it home. I see the roots are coming out of the bottom. Does this mean I need to repot? Thanks!

you will need to repot in spring to keep this plant happy. i would also recommend changing most of the media to a gritty succulent mix. gently shake away most of the old soil when you repot, avoid touching the roots as much as possible to prevent damage, and then replant in a plastic nursery or terracotta pot for plenty of drainage. the soil should be at least 50% inorganic matter like pumice and perlite. also, you may not need a larger pot, the pot should only be a little bit bigger (1-2”) than the rootball (without soil) to prevent any watering issues

Nope! They like to be a bit snug. Also, as a person with a bunny eat cactus, never NEVER touch these things without THICK rubber gloves. They aren't fluffy, they are torturous. Those little spikes detach and stay on your figures and they burnnnn. And be careful to not get any in your eye as they could make you go blind. Anyway, cactus don't need a lot of room so no need to repot. I have one that is bigger than yours and it's in a smaller pot and it’s totally happy!

lol “they aren’t fluffy, they are torturous” that made me laugh because it’s so true. I handle a lot of my cactus with bare hands but I won’t do bunny ears.

It seems like your cactus is actually in a small pot but sitting in a pot that makes it look taller?

Oh, yes, they are both 6 inch pots. One just fits right inside the other.
