I just found out that ants actually eat aloe vera it was terrifying when I moved the pot for mine only to find hundreds of ants under it do not leave them outside if necessary or something I don’t want anyone to take that risk

Good to know I wonder if that has anything to do with what I’m dealing with too. I have a pothos and a creeping silver next to my pink aloe and when I went to water them all three pots erupted with thousands of ants and I was so confused. Tho I think I e got most of them handled between bottom soaking each plant and spraying the top with soapy water to drown the ants that come out.

Thanks for sharing, you see I just got this one and the one in my room is doing well so I wanted to bring it inside at first, but my dad said that it doesn’t have a proper pot which it doesn’t. It’s still plastic and it would get dirt everywhere so I left it outside until so, but then Texas weather happened and there was a huge storm so I had to bring it under the cover instead of out in the open and when I moved it back, there was a bunch of ants under it, it was frightening!

Oof I’m Midwestern so I tend to just keep all mine inside (zone6) unless it’s a nice day then I’ll set stuff out to some fresh air lol.

Interesting. 🤔 I have ants that live in my aloe/succulent pot on my front porch because it’s a big pot that stays pretty dry. I’ve had aloe in there for years and never noticed the aloe having any negative effects from it or seen any bite marks. I just see them scurrying away when I water it. Are you sure they are eating it? They also hang out in my other big outdoor pots with tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and hibiscus. I think they just like living in big pots of dirt. It’s easier to make ant tunnels in potting soil than the hard clay ground we have here in TX.

You can pull the plant out and let the dirt dry in a single layer on your driveway or porch. They should leave as there’s no longer anywhere to hang out. Aloe can go a while without water so it should be fine laying there with the dirt to let the ants move out of the root area too. Then you can just pot it back up good as new.😊

Idk I just looked it up out of fear, also I used to have tomatoes in the reason that ants climb all over them is because of honeydews which are a type of insect I think that attached to your plants and the ants actually use them as like a cow in which they milk it and use that to eat pretty weird actually

Oh yeah, ants do farm aphids. It is very weird for sure. 🤪 But unless you see aphids on your aloe, they are just enjoying making a colony in the loose dirt. I understand though why that would freak you out when you are not expecting it!😊
