I understand that they shouldn’t decrease in size as they grow; I just don't know what to do differently. Any helpful tip would be appreciated.

I think if you're just careful with your watering you should be fine. Because the bowl is glass you can see how wet it may or may not be at the bottom of the bowl. You do want some moisture to get to the bottom of the bowl when there are Roots down there. If those roots don't get moisture that causes problems also. Of course they don't need much but they can't do without any water.

My opinion is the plant needs much more light, longer or brighter, or both. Just from your pic, it’s not nearly bright enough. Also if jades get enough light the edges will get reddish. I don’t water until the entire pot is bone dry and maybe starting to see some wrinkling in the lower leaves. They may feel bendable too. They are not closed terrarium plants. Only moisture loving plants will survive in that environment. You can trim your plant. It will branch out then. Check out YouTube “ how to trim a jade”. Pics are to show the grow light intensity needed for succulents. They are on about 14 hours a day.

What is the soil that you use?

I start with Jack’s Gritty Mix for all my succulents. Then add regular potting soil to that depending on the plant and/planter. For a jade I would probably do about 50/50. You can use perlite for grit. Also they do well in terracotta pots unless you are very comfortable with your watering ability. And roots are usually shallow so I try to use corresponding planters.

Just remember this is for enjoyment. It’s a learning experience. I recently cut my big beautiful jade plant down because of continuous mealy bugs. The treatment for the bugs and me doing a heavy trim just previous to the infestation took its toll. So I cut off all the greenery and it’s quickly growing back and I think it’s going to be its best ever look. The first pick is during treatment. Second is now.
