Hi everyone! I have this elephant bush that has been doing well and slowly growing. I’ve followed the Planta care schedule. But today I noticed a lot of leaves dropped. I know plants will drop leaves to make room for new ones. Is this the case? The roots don’t seem to be growing out the bottom so I don’t think it needs more room and repotted. But Google said dropped leaves may be due to over watering đŸ˜ŹđŸ«Ł any ideas? Is this ok? Anything I should do? TIA!

Are you sure this is an elephant bush? Looks more like jade to me. Either way it’s a succulent. Planta tends to overwater things so it’s best to use the notifications as a reminder to check the soil and see if it needs water. These guys like to dry out completely, so the soil should be dry from top to bottom if you poke a chopstick in or something. If it’s not, snooze the watering notification with the option “soil is still wet”. That way, planta updates its watering schedule.

that’s an elephant bush for sure, i have a pretty big one and i only water her when her soil is completely dry and she gets just a touch wrinkly. you just gotta be consistent and give her all the light you can:)

I agree, I struggle with one of these that I rescued. It seems that they’re very prone dropping leaves from underwatering as well as overwatering. So consistency and checking the soil is the best with these plants. I am getting into checking the leaves by squishing them slightly, if they feel like a squishy ripe banana, I will water it. If it’s more firm, it’s holding water. By the time it gets wrinkly, the plant is underwatered.

Mine is going gangbusters now that I’ve moved it from the porch to the sunny side of my driveway.
