I’m mixing up the soil for this Lola and I’m not sure how much grit versus peat percentage I should use, do they need it rocky or fluffy? Tia I want to use this dish but I’m not sure if it’s deep enough

depends on your watering habits really, but I would err on the side of rocky before fluffy. i keep mine in alllll grit (pumice, perlite, lava stone, and something else i’m forgetting) but i keep mine outside all summer. this is beneficial so i dont have to worry about rain, since the water runs right through the more peat you add the more water it will hang onto.

Your friend is looking to pot a succulent, possibly an Echeveria 'Lola'. For succulents like this one, the soil mix and container choice are crucial for their health. Here's some guidance: ### Soil Mix: - **Grit vs. Peat:** A good mix would be about 70% grit (like perlite, pumice, or coarse sand) and 30% organic matter (like peat or coco coir). This ensures excellent drainage while still retaining some moisture for the roots. - **Texture:** The soil should be rocky and well-draining, not fluffy. Succulents are prone to root rot if they sit in waterlogged soil, so the mix should allow water to flow through quickly. ### Container: - **Depth:** Succulents don't need very deep pots since they have shallow root systems. However, the pot should be deep enough to allow the roots to spread out and for excess water to drain. - **Drainage:** Ensure the dish or pot has drainage holes. This is crucial to prevent water from sitting at the bottom and causing root rot. ### Planting Tips: 1. Fill the bottom of the pot with a layer of the gritty mix. 2. Place the succulent on top and fill around it with more of the mix, gently pressing it down. 3. After planting, wait a few days before watering to allow any damaged roots to heal and prevent rot. With these steps, the succulent should have a well-draining environment to thrive in.

Eventually I was going to put them on the front deck for now they will probably winter with me inside. I have a few different bonsai mixes and I have a layer of monto clay and slow release nerds

No, pot is too big. The bigger, more water the pot will retain. Use a pot 1 inch wider than current pot.
