Hello/help! I was repotting my cacti, Mr Cacti, for the first time (I probably should have done it a few years ago, but I was very new to house plants then). I put him in a nice new Wrendale pot I brought recently (so glad it came in handly and I did not just buy it because it looked really nice (I have a Wrendale obsession)) but anyway. I noticed the bottom of Mr Cacti was a yellowish colour and there were some white parts on the main body of the plant. The soil was a little moist (sorry for those of you who hate that word, I am running out of synonyms!) which I think is the problem. It was hard to tell how much water I was giving him when watering as the pot was so small. What I am going to do is leave the soil to dry for a bit, but of course as he is repotted supposedly you are meant to insure there is enough water. Other than that, Mr Cacti is okay. But please help, he is my first plant baby and I just lost my baby aloe vera, Tauriel jr., and a few months before that my poinsettia Mimi, I cannot bear to loose another. Also, sorry for writting so much, I am known for writing war and peace. 🤣😭🌵 PS. Ignore the little dent in the side of Mr Cacti, that is where he fell off of my window sill during a storm once, long story.

Ahh yikes!! Yellowing on a cactus is not good but the roots look fine so just let it dry out completely. Then water.

Make sure the new pot has chunky soil and good drainage

Make sure to not water for a few weeks after repotting; if the roots suffered any stress, they can rot in the MOISTure.

Thank you all for bothering to read my war and peace. Unfortunately the new pot does not have drainage as it was the best I could find (pots are expensive everywhere I find them). I think I was just in time to save Mr Cacti, but hopefully I do not speak to soon. Thank you again, I will follow your advice.

Do you have a nice thick layer of rocks or pebbles in the bottom of the pot? Also, if you have/can access a drill, you can look on YouTube for a video on adding drainage holes to pots. That’s my big project for Sunday after the Grand Prix.

That is a good idea thank you, I am planning to add some drainage holes at some point. Ooh, are you also a formula one fan too? Which team do you support?
