You may or may not remember me posting about my fish bone cactus having one wrinkly stem and the others being fine. I tried watering more and nothing happened. I’ve finally been able to come to a conclusion. That one stem has always tilted weird, so I looked into the dirt. Far down on the stem there was a cut about halfway through the stem. I assumed it must have happened during repotting. This must have been making it die slowly but it tried to repair itself (hence why new stems were still growing off it) it’s gotten really bad now I think there’s no saving that one stem. I’ll just leave it, no use in pruning now but kind of upsetting. At least the plant should remain healthy. Sorry for the lengthy post, got nothing better to do than talk about my plants! 🌱 The one closest to the camera and almost lying flat (and the ones attached) is the one dying.

Don’t give up so quickly! You can absolutely propagate that piece!😃 That’s how I got two very large Queen of the Night cactus plants. They started from a small cutting. My dog is 3 ft long, for reference. I’m dragging this ridiculously heavy plant inside for winter. Clean hands and tools before cutting. Cut the leaf at the rim of the pot. Rinse the cutting with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect. Let dry on a clean surface out of direct sunlight until a callous forms at the cut end, about 3 - 5 days. Place the cutting in water and in bright indirect light until 2 inch roots form. Change the water each week. Plant in the same pot or start it in a new pot.

Idk why but I didn’t think abt doing this even though I’ve propagated before. Thanks for the suggestion. There is a callous at the bottom already but I think cutting will just make it have to callous again so I might as well cut at the rim of the pot. One question when I cut it off could a new stem grow in its place if I also cut where the already made cut is???

Typically, a new growth would sprout if it was not already broken at the roots. This is new growth on my Queen of the Night cactus. I broke it off since it’s in the walk way.
