Woke up to find this little pleated inkcap mushroom had joined my echeveria. This plant has just recently been moved to the front porch but is still fairly sheltered from the elements. Should I be concerned?

fungi are supposed to indicate good healthy nutritious soil !! I don’t think they’re necessarily a bad thing. just make sure you’re not overwatering and the pot has good drainage :)

Mushrooms aren’t a bad thing. In my area it’s very humid outside and the soil is wet and so mushrooms grow. Also Mushrooms can indicate that your soil is healthy. :) I think they’re cute lol

That being said about mushrooms… you need that soil to dry up if you want the succulents to thrive. Overwatering and wet soil will definitely kill them.

Bad advice from the first two people. Mushrooms absolutely should not be growing in succulent soil. Succulents are dry and desert area plants. Mushrooms indicate your soil is much too moist.

I would say that in general mushrooms are a good thing because they show that the soil is a good healthy soil. In the case of succulents, they like to live in a well draining soil, that is dry most of the time. It should only be wet for a day at most after you water them, and then stay dry until the leaves show that they need water again. I think the mushroom is letting you know that the soil is staying too wet. You might need a better draining soil depending on what soil you currently have. Or you might be watering too often. For the moment, you can put a fan in front of it to get that soil dry. What soil are you using?

I will be repotting this plant in the next few days. It has been in the standard potting mix that it came in for about two years. The plant has been growing lately and seems very happy overall, but it is time to make a little room!

I’m going to use an organic succulent mix, FYI
