Confused by this succulent and jade plant that aren’t plump (I’m following the schedule on the app for the most part) but seeking root coming out of the jade. Any advice?

Both look dry. You have to water based on the needs of the plants and not strictly relying on the watering notifications. Use the notifications as a guideline. Always see if the plant needs water. Water more often if needed and set up a custom watering schedule in the app for the specific plant.

Looks like they’re thirsty :) I would top water until it drains through, and then set a tray beneath it with some water for it to absorb as well. After a couple hours you can remove the tray and let it do its thing until it looks fully dry again! Just look at the pot and see if any moisture or condensation is in it , or use your finger or a stick to feel the soil . Hope this helps!!

Both are overly dry and soil appears to be wrong. Is the entire pot of soil getting wet when you water? If the water just runs thru then the soil is so dry it’s repelling the moisture. Then you need to bottom water.

If you manage to save them switch to a succulent soil mix. DIY recipes are on Google. And should probably separate into individual pots because those plants don’t have the same needs.

I am using Espoma organic cactus mix as I was told it was good to use. But if you think they should be separated I will do that. I watered it and it looks like it is wet inside (photo for reference) Edit to add additional info: I just took the two plants out if this container and different parts of the soil are dry while others are wet. Is it maybe the container I am using? Should I put these in an actual pot? I am using the container because of the pot I currently have (photo of them when I first potted them)

Your hippo container is cool. The plastic pot should be fine. To make sure the soil isn’t repelling the water, I would bottom water. Leave the pot sit in a bucket of water until the entire pot is wet. You’ll need to use your own judgement on how long. Because it depends on the soil. But it will probably be at least an hour in the water. Take it out and let it sit to drain. Which also may take a while. The plants require different care. The echeveria needs sun. The jade usually can’t take as much sun. And they may need to be watered at different times. It may be succulent soil, but usually that type has much more grit. But it may be fine. First pic is my succulent soil. Second pic are most of my succulents. I do have tropicals. They are to the left that you can’t see. Hope the info helps. Have fun with your new plants.

I absolutely love your display. after more research despite what the packaging says you are right and there should be more grit. I’ll be ordering some additional soil to combine with the current soil I have and hope that might be better.
