My string of dolphins never seems very happy the top is always bald and dry feeling even though I keep it watered and it sort of feels like the soil is eroding a little in there IDK cuz it's hanging out but any thoughts 🫶🪴🐬

Josie's JungleI have string of pearls and turtles - the tops of them enjoy sunshine and I think your planter may be a bit too high to get some decent light in there. My theory: the rest of the plant is probably sucking up all the moisture to produce more strings that can absorb light while sacrificing the top that isn't producing enough juice to keep it happy.

Oh man that has to be it!! I will definitely lower it or put it in the sunroom where it's lower thank you so much that makes perfect sense now I'm glad that you mentioned that you have the string of turtles because I too have those and my issue with them is it always seems like I'm not even sure if they're alive they're dry but not crunchy n very green and they don't seem to be growing I mist them periodically when the app tells me to now I think I was under misting, and then maybe over misting 😐😩🤦♀️

Tbh, I find that Planta has terrible advice for any of my "string of" plant - including what they like light-wise - so I've gone rogue and just watered them as I think they need it when they start to look a bit dry or shrivelled and plopped them in direct sun 😄

Yeah I definitely follow my own watering schedule for the most part I just sort of listened to the misting part now LOL this apple have me watering my plants once a month and they would be dead 😩🤦♀️ I feel like my string of frogs which I always call turtles 🤦♀️ get crunchy in the Sun I think they like the shade better are you saying that yours like full sun?

My SOT gets a good sun soak on a shelf in a SE window (strings get full southern sun, and the top gets a toasty few hours). My SOP is in full sun, but has done pretty well in the same spot as the SOT when it was there. I think it's all about acclimatizing...
