Hello, I had a very small aloe vera that was gifted to me a few years ago. It has never thrived, has died a few times, and hasnt had roots for about a year. Most of the plants i own arent succulents so im not very knowledgeable in this area. If someone could give me some tips that would be great. Thank you 😊

Cute! Try enclosing to a sandwich bag to increase humidity (mist the bag before closing if the planter is dry) and let it be for 3-4 weeks. That's what I do when I'm having a hard time rooting my propagations.

Goodluck! They're very prolific once you get them going, lol.

Is the bottom soft and mushy? If so, then it is rotting.

Its all dark brown/black but not soft. Would it be better to chop some of the bottom off still?

If it is not soft, then I’m really not sure. There would be so little left.

Let it dry out completely before watering again. Not too sure about giving it more humidity, that's more for aroids and such. Cacti and succulents do benefit from humidity when you grow them from seed. Propping them with a bag for humidity might be too much, it'll rot.

I have been letting it dry out completely. I will keep an eye on it so see how it goes with the humidity. Do you have any suggestions on helping it grow roots?

I use rooting hormone powder when I pot up me props. I'm in Tempe AZ so I keep them inside this time of the year but they are next to or in the window. I have a humidifier near them but I'm not too worried about humidity. Also make sure your soil is gritty, my soil is made up of coco chips, pumice, sand and worm castings. I've also used prop drops when watering to encourage roots. But the best way to root cacti/succulents is to use akedama, at least that's what I've found that works with the conditions I givey plants.
