Does anyone in PA know where to buy Jade plants? I’ve only ever seen them in Home Depot and Lowe’s, and from my experience with both stores, they tend to have issues with their plants getting infested with insects that you end up bringing home and infecting your other houseplants. Any online sellers are fine too, but I really only know one nursery that’s in my area, and they don’t sell jades.

Well I’m in PA and I have 3 thriving jades & some props in progress 👀 I will say that the nature of jade makes them fairly resistant to pests. The leaves are generally too thick. If you get one from a big box you can pretty easily dunk it and it should be ok.

Thank you for the advice. I’m just skittish with them after the last time I got a jade from there. It had bugs hidden in the dirt and i was new to caring for plants from non-plant specialty stores, so I placed the plant in the same room as my garden snail terrarium. Within a day, the bugs hidden in the dirt migrated from the new jade into my poor snails’ terrarium and started crawling out of the ground in droves like a scene from a zombie movie. My poor snail was so freaked out it started shrinking and trying to crawl up the wall as fast as it could to get away from them. I had to completely remove everything in the tank, put Onion (my snail) in a new home, then dump all the dirt out and wash it and refill everything that used to be in it. That’s also my PSA to anyone who owns plants AND terrariums: if one has a bug infestation and said bugs can move, DON’T put that plant in the same room as your terrarium pets. Isolate that bad boy from your plants AND your pets 😂

On another note, I’ve been considering cutting and propagating pieces from my 30-year old Jade, but I’ve only propogated from Burro’s Tail so far. Would you happen to have any tips on propogating Jades?

My advice for propagating or regrowing jades is that as long as they have good light they can come back from anything - including lack of light! This one I put outside last year without tempering (deliberately- I kind of put it out there to forget about it) in the summer and it was literally just a stick, all the leaves burned and then fell off. Now it looks like this a year later. You can prop a top cutting right in water like anything else. You can regrow from a single leaf just left on top of some soil. These things WANT to live.

The “big” one in the middle there is just a limb that fell in (before I pruned this) and it rooted itself.

my “tree jade” I grew from a 4 leaf top cutting from my first jade. Just rooted in a shot glass of water - and here she it ~8 years later

I bought a few of my early plants off of Etsy, but I recently discovered Palm Street app. They have live auctions but I warn you, you have to have some major self-control: I bought 19 plants in the last couple of days 👀

Etsy has many sellers and competitive prices. Search on Etsy. The word “local” will show on the advertisement picture if the seller is located in your state. Opening the advertisement will show the city and state. You can message the seller with questions before buying anything.

Thousands of plants are sold each day on Etsy. I’ve bought over 100 plants on Etsy with one plant not sent when the buyer closed shop. File a claim with Etsy for a refund under the purchase menu for the plant, if you haven’t done so already. The Help button is on the top menu of the receipt.

I have ordered several plants from Etsy sellers and have gotten every one. There are places on the app where you can message the seller and/or complain to Etsy.

I’m in pa and Walmart tends to have some that do ok. Just pick out a healthy one that looks really good so that it is not to hard to try and revive it. Mine do ok when I get them
