Please help! I’ve had this hobbit jade plant for almost 2 years. It recently started dropping a lot of leaves really quickly and developed brown spots on most of the leaves that dropped. I don’t know what’s wrong and I don’t know how to help it. I water it every 1-2 weeks when the top soil is dry. It got repotted in March and its health has just been spiralling since then. It used to live right by our south facing window, but i feared that the brown spots were developing because it was getting cooked during the day while I was at work, so I moved it to the center of the room. That seemed to make the leaves drop faster so i moved it back by the window today. I’m not sure what’s wrong and I don’t know how to fix her. Please help!

See the little white dots on the leaves? Looks like powdery mildew, with a little bit of stem rot, likely due to overwatering. Same thing happened to mine, but you can save it if you act fast. I repotted mine in fresh MiracleGro succulent soil to ensure lots of drainage, and have been using Captain Jack’s Copper Fungicide to control the powdery mildew, which has been working well. It’s a journey back from the brink, and it doesn’t look like yours is there yet, but it takes time and patience.

Thank you so much 🙏🏼 can you explain how you knew about the stem rot so i know what to look out for? Also when I repot, should i rinse out the previous soil from the roots at all?

Take some cuttings now just in case !

That is a great idea. 😊 You can cut part of a healthier stem a couple inches long and root that. You can propagate from a leaf but it takes much longer. Won’t hurt to do both just in case. I’ll insert one I propagated from a stem cutting a few weeks ago. It’s already got roots. I just cut it, let it lay on the counter to callous over for a couple days and then stuck it in a smallish terracotta pot with succulent soil. Follow the watering guidelines I posted below and it should grow roots if it isn’t too rotten already.

Got some babies earlier in the spring. Hopefully they last! 🥹

Oh awesome! They look great and already have roots! You can probably plant it whenever you are ready!😊

You have to wait until all the dirt is dry, not the top inch. Succulents store water in their leaves like water balloons, not in the dirt. They should sit in dry dirt between waterings so the roots don’t rot. Then check the lower leaves for signs it’s time to water. When they become more wrinkly or not as firm, it’s time to water. You having it healthy so long tells me sometimes 1-2 weeks is the right time. If it’s getting more light or is putting off a lot of growth, it will need water sooner. The plant will tell you.
