My Mammillaria karwinskiana flowered a two months ago and recently it started growing the long white tuffs, they feel soft and feathery in the location where the flowers are. And now this bright, hard protuberance has appeared! I have been following Planta’s advice for care. I have watered and fertilized per their schedule. What is going on?? Is this a fruit? Whar are the white puffs??

Just remnants of the flowers, the fruit will only form at the same time the flower is dying and cacti of this genus produce edible berries, actually all cacti produce edible fruits and berries.

I think the magenta growth is a berry.

If the plant is dying, does that mean you can get a new cactus from planting the seeds inside? 😃

Probably, I have no idea about the germination rate, but there is most likely a good chance of at least one being successful and the success rate varies from cacti to cacti. I have a dragon fruit cactus and a bunny ear prickly pear cactus, that will produce dragon fruit and prickly pears at sexual maturity.

The pink thing is a fruit and you might be able to eat it you’ll have to look it up but you can extract the seeds and grow babies

I'm pretty sure mammillaria are self- pollinating. Usually if it's not viable it'll start to shrivel back up. Oohhh the white cottony stuff is tomentum

Also there is no known species of cacti that itself or it’s fruit are poisonous or harmful in any way.
