Anyone have tips on how to get my thanksgiving cactuce to grow more leaves? Should the leaf ends be callused over like this, and maybe that’s why it doesn’t seem to be putting out new leaves. I’ve only gotten 2 new leaves, on the same stem, in the 9 months I’ve had it. She seems happy otherwise, only water when fully dry, she’s in a SW window but there’s a blind in front so she doesn’t get direct light.

Highly recommend setting up a fertilizer schedule! They will still put out new leaves even with callouses! These guys can actually like quite a bit of light but I would recommend slowly getting it used to more direct sun. My Xmas cacti is in a west facing window with direct sun all afternoon

Ooooh ok maybe I need to fertilize more, it seems the last time i did it was 2 weeks ago…. And then before that was June 7th. Looks like I keep skipping them (probably bc it doesn’t need to be watered at the time planta recommends) good to know the calloused ends aren’t the issue tho! Thank you!! Planta is giving me a warning that it’s placed too sunny, so I thought maybe that could also be why? But she just popped out a new leaf and I just moved her to my new plant stand (but behind the partially opened blind) about a month ago and bam! New leaf! So maybe I’ll slowly open the blind more so she gets more and more light if yours is doing ok with direct sun. (She’ll def get direct in my window!)

I love planta but tbh I don’t use it as a hard and fast schedule bc I find it wanting me to overwater my plants. I think holiday cacti are one of those that people can keep in a darker room so it tends to be “recommended” like snake plants. Acclimating is key but honestly they can take “sunburn” pretty well. Here’s my Xmas cactus in the west facing window. Getting them to bloom frequently requires a ton of light during the day and then a really long period of “night” or darkness, like over 10 hours.

IMHO you would have to be keeping the plant in like direct blasting sun all day for it to be “too sunny”

My Easter cacti live in the same window. I don’t have a thanksgiving cactus yet!

👏🏼 very nice. All my cacti are outdoors and grow well. I’ve yet have been able to grow a holiday cactus. 🌵 Either indoors our out!! You’ve encouraged me to give it another try. 😄
