This is my Bellum Altair. He was doing okay when I got him then I took him with me in my car and totally forgot about the poor baby. The flower shriveled up. Can anyone please help me learn more about succulents? This is my first succulent, I only have experience with plants like spider plants, white Anne fittonias.

Succulents are pretty easy If you do the right things make sure to let them dry out fully before watering and in the summer \ spring fertilizer is key ( Amazon ) ! Don’t let them get too much sunlight and I would recommend cutting off the flower as it takes energy from the plant . Cut off any dead leafs and make sure it looks healthy and make sure you repot frequently! Use a balanced succulent fertilizer (amazon ) when repotting/potting ! They are ok in bright indirect light but never in direct sunlight (because there closely related to cactus)

Can I use a grow light? I have light in my room but it’s not bright enough without putting it in the window and then it’ll get direct light

A couple things that I’m curious about, here…… I’ve never heard that repotting succulents often is a good thing. I’ve heard tons of people say that succulents like to be a little root bound and that you don’t need to repot unless the rootball isn’t retaining water and just dumping out as soon as you put water in. Depending on the size of the plant, could be a couple of years. Also, in my experience it’s hard to give succulents too much direct sunlight. They love to sunbathe and will turn red around the edges of the leaves to protect themselves if they’re getting too much sun. They’ll let you know. Everything else, I would agree with. This is what I’ve been taught and had success with. 💜

I repot mine often because there big but small ones definitely don’t need it I was just saying when it’s bigger and although sunlight is good it can burn the leaves where I live that’s all I was saying

Cut off the flower and it will be fine. I don’t repot mine very often, every few years, and mine love being in a window.
