Last watered June 17th when completely dry. No pests identified when I checked it. Around June 21 leaves started falling off when the were barely touched(like if moving plant next to it and accidentally brushed it with my hand while picking up/setting down plant next to it). Today it looked horrible!!!! Unpotted and soil quite wet for having been 9 days since watering. Didn’t see any perlite, chunky bark, etc. No nasty odor. Can see how things look in photos. The roots, although thin, do not feel mushy at all. Am letting it dry out and plan on repotting in terra cotta (was in nursery pot) and in better draining soil. I have 2 sizes of terra cotta pots available. Bothe are in a photo. Please let me know your thoughts on my diagnosis and plan, along with which pot to use—please and Thank You💚 Pots Left to Right: TC 6”, Plastic 6”, Ceramic 4”, TC 4”, TC 4”

1st the easy one - i would put it in a terra cotta 4in. Idk why the leaves are dropping. They don't like being touched and moved around much so there's that. But some of it looks like not enough water and some look over watered. So i hope someone else can help you..

Plan sounds pretty good! Your soil does look like it has too much organic material. I’d recommend a cactus/succulent mix. Chop off any of the arms that have the black. Chop off any mushy or extra dry papery roots, treat it with a 3% dilution of hydrogen peroxide. Repot it in probably the 4”

Thank you! That’s what I’ll do. No roots feel mushy or have an odor. Must have caught it right before that happened!!!

are any of them really dry and pull off easily? If so it’s probably dry rot and you’ll want to get rid of those roots

Agreed. I’d treat with a peroxide soak and sprinkle liberally with Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder to help regrow any roots if they’re damaged or rotted. If the roots have a sort of subtle citrus scent, it might be dry rot
