There’s a lot going on here, but had to improvise a spot to take a pic. This ric-rac cactus developed its first flower bud! I read that they open at night. How long does it stay open though? If I’m not watching it at night, will I still be able to see it early in the morning?
It should stay open for a little while in the morning as long as it’s not getting direct sun.

Did you do something different to get it to produce flowers? I have had mine for about 5 years now and it has never produced a flower.
I gave it some fresh soil about a month ago, but I put it back in the same pot. I have it in an east facing unobstructed bay window. It’s upstairs, so it gets pretty warm in that window in the summer. I think that they don’t prefer to dry out completely between waterings, but because that window is so warm it does completely dry out before I remember to water it again. Other than that it was a complete surprise to see that bud.
1 Like Thanks 😊 I didn’t even know it flowered until I found this picture posted recently, so I did some research. It does like less water and cooler temperatures in order to flower.
Well, the days are starting to cool down, so maybe you can get yours to flower too! 🤞🤞
