Help! My once tiny Baron Bold succulent was doing so well but I had to repot…. I guess he didn’t like it even though I used the right soil. He seems to be rotting from the bottom root. Should I cut and replant the healthy top? I’m not great with succulents, can I save this plant?

Yes cut and prop. That rotting is caused by continuous overwatering. A repot wouldn’t do that. And the soil, still looks too organic for most succulents. If Miracle Grow Succulent soil, most succulent people will tell you it’s bad unless you amend it with lots of grit. Also looks to need a lot more light. Sorry for all the negativity.

Not negative at all! I appreciate the answer. It was doing great until I repotted it from a 1” pot and changed the soil. Yes, miracle grow succulent soil mixed with perlite and sand - yet, I know it’s still holding too much water because I only watered it that time I repotted it two weeks ago. As far as light goes, I’m surprised because it’s in a bright spot, but I’m going to put it in the southeast facing window. I just didn’t want the sun to burn it because that window gets very hot. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Would you mind telling me exactly how to propagate it. I have a few strat leaves which are healthy and then I have the top. I’m going to leave them out to callous for a day or two and then do I just place them on the soil?

I mentioned needing more light because the leaves are far apart and stem seems weak. Unless it’s a trailing jade but I don’t think so. When it gets a lot of light the edges of the leaves will turn reddish. That’s ok. As far as propagation, I’m impatient and rarely do leaf props. But that’s just a matter of laying them on a thin layer of soil. As roots form you can start misting them. Jades root very quickly in soil with stem cuttings. If the cuttings start to wrinkle, just squirt a little water at the base. Don’t water the entire pot. Check for roots after a couple weeks by gently tugging on the plant. Good luck.

I double checked … it’s fertilome succulent soil mixed with drainage components- usually my go to brand with my other plants. Any thoughts? Recommendations for better soil?

I’ve been using the Jacks Gritty Mix for quite a while. I then add regular potting soil to that. There are other brands. I’m just not as familiar with. To get a good idea of percentages to use, look up “succulent soil recipe “ on YouTube. It will give you a visual of what to use. For jades, I use about 50/50 of jacks and potting mix.
