Cactus LoverIf that is a jade plant (which it looks like one), you could put the stem in distilled water or put it directly in soil, depending on your preference. I have had success with both. Since the cutting looks a little shriveled already, it might not make it, but jade plants are pretty hardy. So, you never know. Good luck!

PhilGollum jade. Let the cut end callous about a day. Plant into good quality succulent/cactus soil. Water at the stem base every two or three days. Squirt bottle works well. Do not water the entire planter. In about ten days it should be growing roots. Check by gently pulling up on the stem checking for resistance. Once established start a regular succulent watering routine.

All of the above are good tips. You could apply rooting hormone to the root part if you have it before planting it in well draining cactus soil.

Patient update: Jade seems to be doing fine in this soil, inner pot, display pot. Even looking rehydrated.
