I bought this plant today and was needing some help with ID. My research is showing a lot of similar looking cacti. My current guess is a White Barrel Cactus or a Mother of Hundreds

95% sure it’s Mammalaria bocasana. It’s definitely mammalaria genus though.
3 Me gustaThank you! I’ve been guessing Mammalaria, but Bocasana does look very similar! I love the common name “Powder Puff” as well
0 Me gustaNo problem! The little hooks were the give away. It’s been on the shelf for a while, be careful acclimating it. You should be able to slow down or stop the etiolation.
1 me gustaI just work at the store and they were our new shipment. any advice for helping fix or even just identifying the etoliation?

There is no etiolation. She looks good from here.
0 Me gustaThere is definitely some beginning. A M. bocasana’s “nipples” are held more closely to the trunk when grown in part/full sun. It’s not etiolation in the sense we’re more familiar with in columnar and barrel cacti where the trunk reaches. This kind specifically causes a messy loose appearance instead of a more compact rosette form. The light green growth is it saying I’m going to grow these “nipples” longer to increase light surface area. They grow under the cover of other plants naturally in Mexico, so they don’t need a full days sun to stay neat and compact.
