I hear that it means your soil is in good shape. It’s a sign you’re doing alright.

As long as your soil is drying out between watering, you're fine. I have mushrooms in my ficus elastica and he's growing several inches a month

I panicked too at first! Something growing in your pots that you didn't put there is always a shock lol

it means your soil is holding onto water longer than your cactus wants it to — i know this is contrary to other feedback you’ve gotten, but cactus/succulent soil should never stay moist long enough for mushrooms to grow

Well dang, I always check it before I water. I’ll check more carefully 😣

I get the occasional mushroom in my succulents when the humidity is really high in my home. Doesn't mean they're overwatered, they just need more time to dry out before being watered again

yup that’s what i’m saying. it’s holding water longer than it should for a cactus. cactus and succulents need the soil to dry quickly, much more quickly than a mushroom needs to grow. glazed pots contribute to the moisture retention. so you can be waiting until the soil it dry to water again, but if the soil is stay moist for days, that’s not ideal for succs think of it from the perspective of where the grow natively. sandy, fast draining, fast drying places. the growing medium isn’t hanging onto water at all. the water runs through quickly, the roots grab what they can and store it away

You need to replace the soil. All that mulch is rotting, decomposing and retaining moisture, mushrooms love decomposing organic matter. For succulents and cacti use a soil with less organic material and compost, a gravelly rocky soil that won’t rot.

It’s the same succulent and cactus soil I have all of them in. I understand though and wish I had added something more to it like perlite. It’s going to be about 50 pots I need to redo 😣

Yeah, I did the same with my succulents, and had to repot about 20 of them. I’m still trying to find a good ratio for a good mix. Good luck!

Mushrooms mean nutritious potting mix so don't worry! And if you like the look, feel free to leave them be!
