EmPen’s Abode

Any Aloe plant experts? This plant was gifted to me a couple years ago and I have the hardest time figuring out what it wants. The leaves always fall over and bend but it sent out two pups last year. I tried putting it outside in the sun last year and it turned brown and looked dead. Then I stuck it in a corner by my deck behind some other plants to die and it came back, green as ever! It’s been inside all winter but now the leaves are bending again! What should I do?!

Is it over watered by any chance?

That’s what planta suggests but it is very dry soil and im only watering it according to what planta suggests. Which is once about 2 weeks ago

I have the same variety and it honestly took me a while to figure out… in my experience it likes very bright indirect light. Not too hot but also not too cold.. so I had to move mine as far away from the vents as possible and put it under a grow light.

Hmm yours looks great. I used to have a grow light on it but it seemed to do worse. I had a lot more issues with bending limbs and browning tips

I did have to adjust the output at first. I started with the lowest setting and then worked up to the high setting after it got used to it. I do struggle a bit with browning leaves at the bottom but tbh I don’t pay attention to it too much. I probably only water it every 2-3 weeks, very lightly though bc my pot doesn’t have drainage 😅

More light! I put mine outside and after they get a little annoyed with being outside, they thrive!

That’s what I thought but I almost killed it in the sun. It liked being behind a bunch of my other potted plants in the middle of summer. But I was hoping to have it out somewhere I could enjoy it more

Ease it into full sun. Here is mine, a baby from Aldi to a huge monster within a year. I had to repot twice last summer it got so large.

This is mine in the Mexican kingsnake’s tank, mild humidity helps a lot. I also have a small fish tank that’s specifically for plants and they’re absolutely thriving with humidity and LED lights 🤷🏻‍♀️

It looks like it needs more light. It’s also important to figure out the species so you can figure out its growing season. Some aloes are winter growers and some go dormant in the winter. I believe aloe vera is a spring/fall grower that slows/goes dormant in summer and winter. Mine would slow considerably in summer and then grow like a weed in spring and fall.
