Fungus nats are the worse! I had this problem with my aloe when I had her in Miracle Gro cactus, palm & citrus soil. It was staying wet for way too long. I fixed the problem by taking her out of the Miracle Gro, rinsing the roots off, washing her pot out & repotting her back up with Captain Jack’s Gritty Mix. This mix allows her to dry out between waterings & the nats don’t seem to like it. Win-win!

I agree! Also, cinnamon repels insects so sprinkling it over the top layer of soil can help as well :)

watering with a solution of hydrogen peroxide will kill the larvae in your soil, sticky traps for adults. agree with a better draining soil — your aloe will definitely appreciate a grittier mix and the fungus gnats can’t breed as easily in that

Since they lay babies very quickly, I would: Throw away all the soil and wash the roots (and wipe down the leaves with a dry towel where appropriate) to ensure none remain. Go back into their location and set up sticky traps, and kill any that you see around. Cover the windows with pest mesh/screens to prevent more from getting in. Repot, and either move it back to that location or (preferably) leave it in a knot free area until you’re confident you haven’t seen any for a while. They’re drawn to strong food smells/rotting food as well as plants, and will thrive if you water your plant from the top. If you water it from the bottom they’re less likely to stick around because the first two inches of soil will remain drier, meaning that they’re unable to lay their babies in it and move on
