HELP!! Hi! How do you repot a succulent. They are so delicate. I seem to mess up. I had one that had some root rot so I took it out. The pot it was in had no drainage hole. I dried it (not much of a root system). I have a soil mixture of sand, succulent potting soil, and chunky soil and perlite. I’m determined to learn how to take care of succulents so they will thrive. I have lots of other plants but succulents must not like me. Also how do you propagate them. Any advice would be great. Thanks!!

It all depends on what you got. Some succulents you can’t propagate. As far as repotting just be careful with the root system. Remove any rotted roots. I would suggest spraying the roots with hydrogen peroxide. Then when you repot make sure soil is chunky and nursery pot is small. Maybe 1” bigger than root systems. I highly recommend terracotta tho. Remember to only water when soil is completely dry. Better to under do it than to over water. Eventually you will be able to tell when its thirsty. If you have any questions feel free to dm me. Goodluck and have a good night. 😁

It sounds like you are off to a great start. But I don’t think of them as delicate. There are a few though that if you just bump them they will lose a leaf. Most will propagate from a stem cutting or just a leaf. You didn’t say what succulent you have. Many you can just cut off the top of the stem, remove bottom leaves leaving enough stem to poke into soil, dry it a day, poke it into a pot of soil. Shallow terracotta pots are best for beginners. Have fun, enjoy your new adventure. Check out my Planta. I have a lot of succulents.
