    beach sand can be good in small amounts, but the salt content is dangerous, especially for smaller plants. sand is good for aeration though, so using a pinch or two won't be so bad, but i'd be very careful about how much ends up in the final mix. id recommend you clean it or purchase clean sand.

      Of course I always flush it out as best I can. I ended up using a good amount and mixing it with some native soil and lots of pine bark.

    No beach sand. Only use horticultural sand or coarse sand. Or sharp sand. I think they are all the same just different names.

      Besides the salt, what is really the difference between beach sand and those?

      I’ve always read it’s the salt. But I’m sure there are a lot more natural additives to it, depending upon the beach you collect it from.
