I’m so excited! I recently purchased this tephrocactus geometricus rooted segment. I’ve been wanting one for a while, but I do not have much cactus experience. I am concerned about the substrate she is planted in, the rocky bits seem to be top dressing, the majority is some kind of organic matter & maybe super fine sand. Should I repot her before spring into something more gritty; or will that cause more harm than good? I don’t want to disturb her roots too much if she is dormant. She is currently in the nursery pot which does have plenty of drainage & is 4” around.

    sand is probably good here, it will help the water to run through. just water thoroughly but infrequently and everything should be 😎 i do prefer to keep cactus/succs in terra cotta, however

    Cacti are drought loving plants that explode with growth when left bone dry for a long time. You should water it every third week and never get water on it because that can cause it to rot and give it plenty of direct sunlight.

    If this is what it came in it should be fine. I have mine in my regular chunky mix + more bark and perlite and pumice. It's giving me a new growth starting since summer
