Ants keep invading my house to live in my succulent plants. How do I keep them out? I’ve repotted, tried cinnamon sprinkled around and even diatomaceous earth but the buggers keep coming inside. I live in the desert so it’s 120 in the summer. I think my plants will just die if I try to move them outside🥲 Cue the plant pic of my babies drowning in cinnamon and diatomaceous earth lol 😭

If I had to guess, the ants are attracted to the moisture in the soil. It sounds like you're in Arizona or some such place and I doubt if they want to be out in the heat either! And, I think you got a little carried away with the cinnamon and diatomaceous earth. You might want to rinse the one off and do a lighter sprinkling.

Haha yes I just wanted the ants gone! I moved my plants and found a nest in one of them…I’ll try the ant poison

I've never had luck with natural sprinkles and ants. I go for the ant bait or spray. If you don't want to spray indoors, they make an outdoor barrier spray too.

I have ants that come in through the weep holes in the brick wall. I put ant granules pesticide at the entry location and on the mounds if I can find them. They carry the granules into the nest. They die within 24 hours. The granules have a strong smell. Not something I would apply inside. But, I use a tablespoon of it on my outside large planters especially the ponytail palm with it’s fibrous roots that ants love because it’s full of air gaps.

A quick Ant story: where I used to work there was an ant infestation in the wood benches that were used to retail plants. I sprinkled some ant bait on the bench to get control of the situation. A short time later I watched one of those little ants pick up a piece of bait and throw it off the edge of the table several times! Smart little bugger!
