I’ve had this donkey tail for over a year. I keep inside during the winter and outside in mostly shady area in the spring and summer. Recently it has been looking a lighter shade of green and leaves easily fall off. Does it look normal or is something off?

Best guess would be it’s getting too much light. Maybe drying out faster than previously. Now that could be happening because the roots are filling up the pot.

I had in a smaller pot and just got this bigger one last week. Do you think I need even bigger?

      Did you just repot it?

Yes, last week. Would it look off, while adjusting to the new pot?

Yes, normally when I report I see some struggle for a week or two to a month. Also I see on the right one of the tails looks dried out about to separate from the stem. I’d probably bring it inside next to a window and monitor it often making sure it’s watered (but not always wet) make sure the soil dries out completely in between watering(I use a meter for some more finicky plants or if I’m not sure)

Yes they definitely get transplant shock. Mine took time to recover and I loss a lot of leaves in the process. I have both the burro’s tail and donkey’s tail and I think the donkey’s tail, the one you have, is even more easily prone for leaf loss, I agree with Sunshine.

they love love sunlight, so brighter light is always best. i would leave it in its current pot and let it adjust. it probably is feeling a little bit of transplant shock. any leaves that fall off, i would just plop it on the top and it should reroot and fill out the pot. i give mine a good soak when the leaves get squishy and wrinkly. always make sure the soil is dry first though. & if the leaves are plump and firm, you don’t need to worry about watering it yet.
