Hello! I’ve been keeping this little succulent prop for a few weeks now, and I’m fairly certain it’s a Mother of Thousands (the tag on the momma plant didn’t say). Just tonight I noticed these little pink sprouty-flower things and was wondering if anyone knew what they were? They’re so pretty! Thank you so much šŸ¤

Roots! Could mean the mother plant isn’t doing well and the leaves want to fall off and establish a new plant- BUT in my experience some plants just like to shoot out roots willy-nillyšŸ˜† since this plant is so young Im wondering if there might be an issue with watering. What is your schedule?

That’s so interesting! I’m just following Planta’s watering schedule that is 1 watering every 22 days. The soil is pretty dry and it still has 4 days left until the next watering. Even though it’s a succulent, could that be too little water?

I'm not sure it's a mother of a thousand. I have several types and yours doesn't look quite right. This is one that looks close to yours and you can see the babies on the edge of the leaves. I have taken starts like yours of the main plant and started new ones , you could do that if you want more plants or leave them and the roots may get long enough to reach the dirt. Good luck

Thank you! I think I might cut the lower part and let it callous over for a few days, then do it in water. I’ve had more success with succulent props in water so far.

It definitely looks like my Mother of Thousands. There are several succulents with this common name. It looks overwatered based on the mushy limp stems and leaves. The pot looks too large. Small succulents and cacti thrive in smaller pots with well draining soil that quickly dries out. The little plant can’t dry out the water in a big pot. My photos show mine a year ago in 3 inch pots and one in October when it’s about 14 inches wide. It sits in full morning sunlight. I recommend reducing to a small pot just big enough to hold the roots. šŸ€šŸŖ“

Thanks so much for your answer! I’ve had more success growing succulent props in water once they’ve calloused for a few days, and if I don’t see growth, I’ll probably pop it back in soil to see if anything happens.

I think this plant is a kalanchoe fedschentkoi (aka lavender scallops)! Mine grew those bright pink aerial roots, and the leaves are mostly green on mine as well

That’s great info! When I scanned it on the app, it said it was a kalanchoe, but the pictures and description sounded so off from my plant that I just assumed it was a Mother of Thousands. Thank you!

these are my kalanchoes! when they grew aerial roots, I popped off the leaves below the roots and put them in peat moss to propagate them and then replanted the mother plant with the aerial roots below the soil, the props are doing AMAZING!! such a cool plant!
