This plant was bought at an Aldi. I repotted it pretty soon after and watered it, but it doesn’t look like it is doing so well and it hasn’t grown at all. I’ve tried putting it in direct sunlight and indirect sunlight but I’m not sure. Does it look okay?

Seems like a big space for a small plant

Looks like a succulent so lots of bright light and doesn’t like a lot of water. The pot is to big. That much soil will retain more water then the plant can absorb causing it to rot put it in the smallest pot you can find. Like 1-2 inch pot and give as much light as you can. Don’t water until the soil is completely dried out.

Looks pretty healthy to me. I agree with the other comments about putting it in a smaller planter. When watering a plant, the main factors that prevent it from getting root rot and any other issues from too much water, is: 1. Amount of water given. 2. Type of soil or other medium (some hold onto water longer than others). 3. Amount of soil or other medium. 4. The rate at which the plant can effectively take up water. A larger plant will need more water and therefore will remove water from the soil at a higher rate than a smaller plant. Conversely, such a small plant in such a large planter can’t consume water at a high enough rate in order to do its part in helping to dry out the soil. You will end up with too much water and rot your plant. If you’re using the Planta app, the schedule it sets up for you will be based on the assumption that the plant is in the appropriately sized planter, inadvertently causing you to over-water.

Succulents need to fit almost snugly in their pots so they can quickly remove moisture from the soil. The fastest way to kill a succulent is having its roots sit in excess water too long. Also, repotting plants right after bringing them to a new home/location can place additional stress on the plant. It is better to wait 3 to 4 weeks before repotting to allow the plant to adjust to the new environment unless immediate repotting is needed to prevent the plant from dying.

i agree with all the comments above. this plant should be in a 2-3” pot depending on the size of the root system. succulents need to be in the smallest pot possible with a very gritty mix to prevent overwatering and rot. the soil media in the picture looks like it may be too dense. most succulents need lots of bright, direct light to thrive and will decline without sufficient light. 8-10 hours of direct light, like in a south facing window, is a good spot for higher light plants like these

Way too much soil. The roots will never be able to dry out, and in turn will rot

I just moved it to a small glass jar and watered it a little bit. I’m semi new to plants, so I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing. Hopefully this is better. I really don’t want to kill it •.•

may be problematic since glass jar doesn’t have drainage holes - caution!

I was thinking the glass jar was tiny and thought it was sitting on something, but now I see that what I thought was another object underneath is actually the label on a much larger jar. Now that you’ve brought the diameter in, you’ll want to get a container that is much more shallow. This jar still has way too much dirt. Being new to this, it might seem crazy to have so little dirt, but note that succulents have thick leaves and that they’re thick because they’re meant to hang onto water. That’s a large part of why watering schedules for succulents and cactuses are so much less frequent than other types of plants; they’re great at hanging on to water.💧

      This might be the perfect pot. It’s 2 x 2 x 1.65”

I found a different jar that’s way more shallow and still pretty snug. I might be able to cover up the exposed dirt on the outside. It’ll have to do for now until I get something proper, but I hope this is okay. I’ll make sure to watch how much water I’m giving it so I don’t overwater it. It’s currently inside since the weather is messy right now. I’ve never cared for an echaveria before, so thank you all for the help!

Glass is problematic - succulents like to be in soil that can dry out well. Glass has no drainage, so this plant in time will get root rot/be unhappy. I suggest moving it to a tiny pot with drainage holes.
