Anyone experienced with aeoniums? Quick dormancy question. I was given one as a freebie with purchase in February. It has roots now but I believe it’s dormant. I live in TX with a short spring. It got some bigger green leaves for a few weeks in a window. It is outside now and those leaves have colored up. No new leaves and It looks the same. So dormant right? I am watering when the leaves get wilted feeling. Planta is telling me to fertilize but I assume I don’t fertilize while dormant right?

The colored leaves may be the cause of sun stressing. So it’s probably not dormant

I thought aeoniums go dormant in the heat of the summer. Yes, sorry if I wasn’t clear, it absolutely is sunstressing. What I meant was that the leaves are completely colored up so they haven’t grown in a few weeks because the new growth is green. When they were growing this spring, the new growth was green. It makes it surprisingly easy to tell if they are growing. 😄 They seem to color up like a piece of solar paper, grow green, then turn burgundy where the sun hits. It’s very cool and different than my other succulents. 😊 So I think they are dormant. Am I missing something? How do you tell when your aeoniums go dormant? This is my first one.😊

You can tell they go dormant because the leaves may curl inwards and become more tightly closed into rosettes. Some leaves may also fall off.

But if it’s not growing because the green is not exposed. I would recommend moving it inside

One more question, shouldn’t they be dormant since it’s 90+ where I live? My original question was more related to if I should skip fertilizing like I suspected when dormant. But, I also very much appreciate the information on looking for dormancy. 😊 When they were inside this spring, they were growing bigger green leaves but this is a burgundy aeonium (forgetting the name🤪) so that told me it should be in more sun. At least was my understanding of how to know when they are getting enough light. I moved it into a part sun/part shade flower bed to help it color up and encourage dormancy since I thought this is the time. It seems happy and healthy. We have a short spring and long summer in TX so I am expecting it to stay dormant for months now until at least October. When does yours go dormant?

July-August type of thing. But if you are noticing stunned growth, it will most likely be dormant. So no, don’t fertilize
