I just got this echeveria about a few days ago and it was doing great until I put it in sun and it doesn’t seem to be doing so good. I gave it some water and repotted it. Should I give it more water? Dampen the soil?

Less water, more light! It’s a little bit etiolated, meaning it’s reaching for the light. These guys like 6+ hours of direct sun (I use a grow light). I only water succulents once a month or less.

Yes, grow lights work great! My full sun echeverias are under a 6500K grow light for 12 hours and that keeps them from stretching. They will sometimes color up more under it too.😊

Although maybe we should clarify that if hers is going outside, it will need water more than once a month if it’s hot. Obviously depends on location. Here in Texas, mine need water at least once a week!🥵

My plant parent app said that it is having too little water 🤷‍♀️. And you probably need to gradually put it in more light. Agreed with the first statement Succulent Mama saud

It is stretched because it wasn’t in enough light before you got it, but you are correct that you put it in too much light right away. Concern 1: yes, that spot is more than likely sunburn. Nothing to do about it, the leaf won’t fix but eventually it will outgrow it.😊 Concern 2: No it doesn’t need more water. That is the easiest way to kill them. Terracotta was a great choice because it will allow the dirt to dry out faster! 😊 With succulents, especially echeveria, you let the dirt stay dry between waterings. When the lowest leaf feels less firm, then you water it. You want to water it thoroughly so the excess water runs out of the drainage hole. Then I always recommend you do that a few more times over a few minutes to make sure every inch of dirt got wet. Sometimes it runs through without getting it all wet the first time or two. You could also bottom water instead by sitting it in a bowl with a few inches of water to absorb over 15 minutes or so. Then you let the excess water drip out and don’t water again until the bottom leaf is less firm again. You are not looking for squishy, just more bendable or a little wilty. If you miss those signs and get a bottom crunchy leaf, it’s definitely time to water.😊 But don’t panic, it’s won’t hurt the plant, it’s just using its stored water. Concern 3: Stretching. Yes, it is stretching for light. Start by putting it in a location about the same as it was in when you found it at the store to allow it to recover from too much sun. After a few days, move it to a brighter location. That could be a sunny window or a shady porch. Keep moving it every few days until you get it to full sun. Choose locations that are a little brighter than the last location. It has to get acclimated to the light. Full sun in July heat was just too much at once for it after being in a low light situation. You did a great job asking on here right away before over correcting too much and creating a new problem.😊 2 questions… What country/state do you live in? In case the weather could change some care instructions. What kind of soil is it in? Because that can also make or break a succulent.😊
